Coho Salmon Dates Set for Approval

The 2025 Coho Salmon season has officially been set after much deliberation by the Pacific Fishery Management Council. The Council adopted a recommendation to be approved by the National Marine Fisheries Service by May 16. We offer a huge thank you to Capt. Mike Sorensen of the Miss Raven for representing Oregon’s sport salmon fishery in these council meetings and standing up to significant pressure from Californian representatives to severely limit our salmon opportunities this year.
For the Newport area and central Oregon coast, Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain, Coho retention opens June 7 and runs through August 24 or until the quota of of 44,000 marked coho is reached. Only “marked” fish, meaning hatchery salmon with a healed adipose fin clip, can be retained, up to two per person. The minimum length for Coho is 16″. Until July 15, anglers could alternatively retain one Chinook salmon, minimum 24″, as part of the two-fish bag limit.
The non-mark-selective Coho salmon season opens Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 30 or until the quota of 30,000 fish is reached. Two salmon may be retained per angler, and a Chinook may be one of the two. The 16″ minimum for Coho and 24″ minimum for Chinook remains, but no fin clip is required in September.
Dates are open for booking on the online calendar for half day salmon and 10 hour salmon and rockfish combo trips. If you don’t see the date you need, please contact us to see if we can add an availability: 541-867-4470. Get ready for the Coho Rodeo!
