Halibut reports from the second opening

Hello all, Things are slow to come out because of the fire at our landlords but we are getting through everything as quick as we can. Last weeks halibut trips were %100 successful.  The weather was rough on Saturday but everyone perservered and came home with fish. Average size was about 37 inches with some in the mid forties and a couple heavy fish lost before they came up.  But fishing was pretty easy going with all trips coming in early instead of using the full 12 hours. Halibut dates

The staff recommendation for the spring halibut season are out.   May 9-11, 16-18, May 30-June 1, and June 6-8.  We will also be taking reservations for June 20-22, which is the first set of back up dates.   Trip prices will be the same as last year, $195.  We are dropping crab pots on the trips as well, weather permitting.   Call soon for reservations, a $100 deposit will be required again this year.   541-265-6800 … Read entire article »

Halibut information

There have been lots of questions about halibut fishing. Here’s what we know so far. Halibut season will change this year.  It looks like no summer season, meaning no opening in August for the all depth fishery.  We’ll have openings starting in May and lasting until the quota is caught.  This could mean we have certain days open all the way into July, depending on effort and weather.   The nearshore fishery which used to be open 7 days a week will only be open three days a week. That means Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.  This was to extend the fishery through the summer.   The season will be set later this year.  We’ll have a public comment meeting with ODFW in Newport on Monday the 4th.  After that ODFW will come out with their recommendation … Read entire article »
