Salmon, Tuna, & Windy Weekend

The good news is we’re catching salmon left and right out there! The bad news is, they are all natives! Well… not all necessarily but really, really close. They are such nice looking fish this time of year. I’m personally hoping the hatchery catch picks up here soon so I can mooch a fillet off of some generous soul…. I can taste it already!

Yesterday’s tuna did well and had great action for the first few hours before it slowed down toward the end. They caught 21 for the 10 guys onboard and were only out about 35 to 40 miles. The tuna didn’t stick around this long last year, so we’re taking advantage! Another trip Monday then a triple threat Thursday, Friday, Saturday!

The other bad news is all of our trips for today and tomorrow (Saturday & Sunday) are cancelled or are probably going to be cancelled because of poor weather. It’s 5am and blowing a steady 17 knots at the tips of the jetty already with gusts over 20 not to mention the choppy ocean… these kind of conditions are not fun at all and they really aren’t very safe. It only takes one bad fall to break something. We’re looking at a gale force wind warning tonight through Sunday afternoon as well, so we’re looking forward to Monday when it’s supposed to be much, much better conditions.

We hope everyone has a wonderful labor day weekend and plans on sticking to dry land! september-020september-014
